Morbid obesity is a major public health problem
in the USA and throughout the developed world. The Bariatric Surgery
Service offers the full array of diagnostic modalities and surgical
treatment options. Minimally invasive procedures (such as the
“lap-band” and laparoscopic gastric bypass) as well as open surgical
treatments are available. The most appropriate procedure is
recommended to suit the individual needs of each patient.
Nutritional counseling before and after surgery is an important
component of the overall treatment program. |
